The Austrian Alps

Pasterze is the biggest glacier of the Austrian Alps. Its space is 32 square kilometers while its length is 10 km. To the north and to the south from the core zone run ridges of limestone and dolomith. Mountains themselves appear to be huge lumps with their slopes almost vertical and caves with stalactites, stalagmites, needle ice, underground lakes and streams.

Eisriesenwelt is the most popular cave in Tennengebierge, to the south from Salzburg.

One special detail about the Austrian Alps is that they are separated by deep broad transversal valleys, which makes their deep parts available. In the Eastern Alps you will meet broad longitudinal valleys.

Intermountain area of Klagenfurt (Carinthia) and Graz (Stiria) are very interesting for tourism.
